Rehabilitative Sciences

The road to recovery from a disability, injury or disease usually involves a strong rehabilitation team. The rehabilitative sciences play an important role in restoring and improving health through skilled therapy, including helping patients gain or improve the ability to communicate, function independently, move and breathe. We may take these life skills for granted, but they are essential to patients who are struggling with them.

Rehabilitative professionals provide therapy for people of all ages, from infants to the elderly, as well as those with developmental and psychological disorders. These career areas are typically marked with one-on-one patient contact and interaction. Therapists often develop meaningful relationships with their patients while helping to improve the quality of another person’s life.

Mizzou’s School of Health Professions offers degree programs in the following rehabilitative science fields: communication science and disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy and respiratory therapy.
