Mission Statement

The SHP Staff Advisory Council will provide assistance and create opportunities, for the development of tools to enhance staff performance, continuing education, and advise the Dean of the School of Heath Professions on matters of mutual interest, and serves as a liaison for non-academic staff or administrative personnel on matters that may be referred to the council. The Staff Advisory Council of the School of Health Professions will not function as a bargaining or grievance unit. The Council will provide an appropriate and effective channel for bringing staff members' concerns and interests to the Dean and departmental administration.


ARTICLE I - PURPOSE

Section 1: Functions of the School of Health Professions Staff Advisory Council (SHP SAC)

  1. Create and coordinate activities and events as proposed by the Council and the Dean .
  2. Represent the concerns of all non-academic staff members.
  3. Act as a sounding board for administration on various issues.
  4. Recommend activities and policies to administration for consideration.
  5. Provide representatives for various committees and task forces.

Section 2: Authority

The Staff Council is an action oriented body striving to improve the working environment and the communications between staff and administration.

 


ARTICLE II - MEMBERSHIP

Section 1: Eligibility
Membership is voluntary and may include any non-academic staff member of the School of Health Professions with a minimum .50 FTE appointment and has been employed for a recommended minimum of 2 months.

Section 2: Voting Membership
There will be a membership of at least 1 staff member from each department within SHP. Membership should be representative of the entire staff of SHP. All SHP non-academic staff members may attend SHP SAC meetings. Appointed SHP SAC members only are eligible to vote.

Section 3: Appointments
The SHP SAC Chairperson will contact Department Chairs/Directors in May and seek member appointments for the upcoming year.

Section 4: Term of Office
Council members will be appointed for a two-year term and may serve additional terms. Terms of office will commence July 1, ending on June 30 one year hence.

Section 5: Vacancies
In the event of a vacancy in an office, the SHP SAC Chairperson will contact the department chairperson or director for a replacement. Confirmation of willingness to serve will be pending supervisory approval.

Section 6: Member Duties
The duties of the SHP SAC members shall be as follows:

  1. Represent the concerns and interest of SHP staff members to administration.
  2. Communicate with staff members regarding SHP activities and events.
  3. Serve on committees as deemed appropriate.
  4. Attend all meetings as scheduled by SHP SAC.
  5. Help with activities sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council.
  6. Evaluate proposed policies as requested and make related recommendations.
  7. Develop goals and objectives on an annual basis.

ARTICLE III - OFFICERS

Section 1: Titles
Officers of the SHP SAC shall be the Chairperson, Vice Chair and Treasurer.

Section 2: Eligibility
SAC members will elect new officers in June .

The SHP SAC Chairperson will gather nominations for Treasurer in May and this position will be elected by the first meeting in June . Any committee member who has served on SHP SAC for at least six months may be elected by the SHP SAC members to serve as an officer.

Section 3: Term of Office
Officers are elected for a one year term, to run from July 1-June 30.

Section 4: Officer Duties

Chairperson

  1. Conduct the meetings.
  2. Develop the agenda for meetings.
  3. Appoint and/or seek volunteers for ad hoc committees.
  4. Serve as spokesperson for SHP SAC.
  5. Provide reports as requested by Dean .
  6. Orient incoming SHP SAC Chairperson and offer guidance preceding his/her taking office.
  7. Contact department Chairs/Directors regarding member appointments.
  8. Coordinate SAC sponsored events

Vice Chair

  1. Take minutes of committee meetings and distribute to all members, and Dean
  2. Send out special notices as requested by SHP SAC Chairperson.
  3. Maintain records of committee attendance.
  4. Notify SHP SAC Chairperson of member's absences and any attendance problems.
  5. Keep a file of any information pertaining to SHP SAC.
  6. Conduct meeting in absence of SHP SAC Chairperson.
  7. Maintains Bylaws and Articles of the Staff Advisory Counsel
  8. Will succeed Chair the next Fiscal Year.

Treasurer

  1. Pays all necessary bills for the Council
  2. Works closely with Division Fiscal staff to Receive deposits and record monies appropriately
  3. Prepares financial reports as needed

ARTICLE IV - SUBCOMMITTEES

Section 1:

  1. Membership on subcommittees shall be for one year or until project is completed. Members may consist of volunteers or be appointed by the SHP SAC Chairperson. Persons other than members of SHP SAC may be recruited to assist at special events.
  2. Members shall provide reports to the full committee as called for by the SHP SAC Chairperson.
  3. Vacancies that occur before the end of one year or before project completion shall be filled as appointed by the SHP SAC Chairperson.

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS

Section 1:
The SHP SAC shall meet at least once per month.

Section 2:
Special meetings may be called by the SHP SAC Chairperson, Dean or at the request of two-thirds of the members.

Section 3:
Two-thirds of the membership of SHP SAC must be present to constitute a quorum. No business shall be conducted unless a quorum is present.

Section 4:
Meeting dates and times shall be determined at the first meeting (typically in July) for the following year.


ARTICLE VI - REVISIONS

The above document will need to be periodically revised to meet the needs of the School and programs. This document is to be reviewed and approved each year by the SHP SAC and the Dean of SHP. All changes must have 2/3 membership vote.
