  • How did you feel when you found out you had won the scholarship?
"I felt extremely honored when I found out that I had been selected for the scholarship. There are a tremendous number of outstanding undergraduates in the School of Health Professions, and I am very grateful just to be surrounded by such wonderful peers. It truly is a great honor to not only be a part of this group, but also to be selected for a scholarship."
  • What does this alumni scholarship mean to you?
"The support of alumni and friends of the School of Health Professions for the continuing education of students is tremendous. This scholarship enables me to continue to give back to the great SHP community, and greatly encourages me to pursue my passion for the health professions field. I cannot thank everyone enough who made these scholarships possible."
  • What do you appreciate most about SHP?
"The thing that stood out to me about the MU School of Health Professions when I was visiting universities and colleges in high school was the passion of the faculty, staff and students. Everyone that I met had something they wanted to share with me, and looked me in the eye when they were talking to me. It’s a wonderfully immersive and encouraging environment. Nowhere else can you find the dedication, passion, and the force that is MU’s SHP."
  • Why did you choose to major in physical therapy?
"When I was in high school, I was doing sprints when suddenly my knee gave out. I was diagnosed with severe tendonitis. My knee gave out because one of the muscles in my thigh was too weak to compensate for the strain that I was putting on it. The remedy for my ailment was to undergo physical therapy. Without the help of a team of physical therapists, I would still walk with a limp. I had always wanted to participate in a helping profession, and physical therapy is ideally suited for my strengths."
  • Do you have a particular area of physical therapy you would like to specialize in?
"Although I am still an undergraduate, I do know that I would like to work in a hospital outpatient setting, in addition to incorporating cardiac rehabilitation."
  • What's your favorite non-SHP activity?
"I greatly enjoy volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia."
